Input - Deforestation and Illegal Goldmining (for free)

Input: Deforestation and Illegal Goldmining A valid Schoggifestival admission ticket is always required to take part in Schoggifestival events. Children up to the age of 12 do not pay Schoggifestival admission. Paid events must be booked separately for children and adults. Issifu Issaka will present the issue of deforestation in Ghana's cocoa sector and its connection to illegal gold mining, known as galamsey. Cocoa farming has significantly contributed to forest loss, with Ghana losing over 65% of its forests due to agricultural expansion. Simultaneously, galamsey exacerbates this problem by destroying cocoa farms to make way for illegal gold mining, causing severe land degradation and pollution. These intertwined challenges threaten both the environment and the livelihoods of cocoa farmers, highlighting the urgent need for sustainable solutions and stricter enforcement against illegal activities. Input by Issifu Issaka, cocoa farmer, campaigner and head of cooperative association in Ghana Venue: Hall Language: English Duration: 30min Price: For free
